Certification Milestones & Censor Edits

Ahead of its scheduled release on June 20, 2025, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) requested key edits, including:

  1. Adding a quote from PM Narendra Modi (“vision for the year 2047”) immediately after the opening disclaimer.
  2. Replacing “Michael Jackson” with “Lovebirds” and “Business Woman” with “Business Person”.
  3. Removing the visual and subtitle featuring the word “kamal” (lotus).

After meeting these requirements during a Revising Committee session headed by Waman Kendre, the film earned its U/A 13+ certificate.

Box Office Surge: It’s a Hit

Despite a modest Day 1 opening (approx ₹10.7–11.5 crore net), Sitaare Zameen Par saw a dramatic jump to ₹21.7 crore on Day 2, marking a 103% increase. Early Day 3 figures show an additional ₹3.66 crore, bringing the 72-hour total to around ₹36 crore net in India.

This growth trend is reflected in a Saturday occupancy increase, up to ~36% nationwide with even late-night and post-midnight screenings added in major multiplexes.

Why the Buzz?

  1. Compelling storytelling centered on a coach guiding players with disabilities
  2. Aamir Khan’s reputation for quality and emotional depth
  3. Excellent word-of-mouth, driving a steep weekend jump
  4. The film’s strong reception indicates it may sustain momentum into the weekdays.
